The Memorial was designed in 2010 and sales of bricks began in July 2010. Construction of the memorial took place in 2011 with the first 125 bricks installed over Memorial Day weekend 2011.

The White, SD, Veterans Memorial is located on the south side of Main Street in White, South Dakota, west of Timmons Bussing's bus barn and east of the Deubrook Area High School ag building and the White Veterinary Clinic.

The White, SD, Veterans Memorial seeks to recognize veterans who have a connection to the White, South Dakota, area. This includes veterans who lived or have lived in the community, including the townships of Argo, Afton, Oak Lake, Sherman, among others, in northeastern Brookings County. It also seeks to recognize those veterans in southern Deuel County affiliated with the Deubrook Area School District.

Veterans' bricks are placed throughout the memorial, regardless of branch of service. A majority of area veterans served with the Army and Navy, with fewer serving in the Air Force, Marines and National Guard. Two veterans served with the Coast Guard and one with the Merchant Marines.
